Today marks the fourth year cities and radio stations across the country publicize National Mesothelioma Awareness Day. The event seeks to draw the public’s attention to the need for research funding to find a cure for this aggressive and deadly cancer.
More than 100 radio stations will play music by singer-songwriter and mesothelioma victim Warren Zevon . A short segment about mesothelioma will follow.
The event began in 2005 when a group of volunteers working for the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation organized to draw awareness of the disease and lack of treatment options. Everyone in the group had been personally affected by mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma attorneys, mesothelioma victims and their families, and other advocates are seizing this yearly opportunity to remind people to be screened for mesothelioma if they have been exposed to asbestos at any point in their lives.
