Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) are both severe adverse reactions that are caused by a number of prescription and over the counter medications, such as ibuprofen.
As experienced SJS attorneys, we’re especially concerned about cases stemming from use of NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs), including ibuprofen. The reason we’re concerned is that drug manufacturers have known for years that these drugs can cause SJS and TEN, but have not done enough to warn consumers.
NSAID Labels Give Weaker Warning
In fact, when ibuprofen was still only available as a prescription, the manufacturing pharmaceutical companies included a warning about the risk of SJS or TEN on the label. However, when this medication was approved by the FDA for over the counter use, the warnings were removed by the manufacturers.
Pharmaceutical companies that manufacture products containing ibuprofen, such as Advil and Motrin, know that their product contributes to some of the 300 or so cases of SJS and TEN that occur every year in the United States, including children as young as 3 months. Tragically, consumers are not given that same warning.
Are you a victim of SJS or TEN from Ibuprofen? Your case may qualify for compensation from drug manufacturers that should have listed the risks on the label. Contact SEGLaw today to discuss your case for free and without obligation.
